Body in Pieces
Incorporating cyanotype into my studio practice allows me to focus on experimentation, play and tactility as a key part of my creative process. Conceptually, the sense of touch, gesture, and the ways in which we interpret and learn from the world around us through our skin echoes within the process of creating cyanotypes. Every step from coating the paper to layering objects and calculating exposure all involve a certain freedom and letting go which makes this type of alchemical photographic technique so special. I become more aware of textures and how certain plants, fabrics and other objects reveal their impression under the ultraviolet light. Like collecting ingredients for a spell, gathering each piece for every cyanotype never fails to reveal in itself a dreamlike kind of magic.
